How to Pay Your Rappahannock Electric Cooperative Bill

Paying your electric bill on time every month is an important responsibility as a Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) member. REC offers several convenient payment options to fit your needs. This article will explain the different ways you can pay your REC electric bill either online, by phone by mail, or in person.

Online Bill Pay

The easiest way to pay your REC bill is online through the MyREC SmartHub portal SmartHub allows you to securely manage your electric account 24/7 using your desktop computer or mobile device

To get started, simply visit wwwmyreccoop and click on “MyREC SmartHub” at the top of the page. This will take you to the SmartHub login. If you’re a new user, click on “New User” to set up your account using your REC account number and an email address.

Once logged in, you can view your current electric usage and charges, make a payment, set up recurring payments, report outages, and more. Making a one-time payment is easy – just click “Pay Now” and enter your payment details. You can pay using a credit card, debit card or e-check.

SmartHub also allows you to enroll in paperless billing to receive your statements electronically rather than by mail. Going paperless saves trees and gives you instant access to your bill each month.

Pay by Phone

If you prefer to speak to someone directly, you can pay your REC bill over the phone using the automated pay-by-phone system. Simply call 1-833-209-6181 and follow the voice prompts. You’ll need to enter your 10-digit REC account number and the amount you owe.

The system accepts payments using credit cards, debit cards and checking accounts. You’ll receive a confirmation number at the end verifying your payment was processed. Pay-by-phone is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for your convenience.

Pay by Mail

Paying by mail gives you the flexibility to send your payment from anywhere at any time before the due date. Simply fill out the payment coupon from your paper bill and return it along with your check or money order in the envelope provided. Be sure to include your REC account number on the check and mail early enough to allow 3-5 business days for delivery.

When paying by mail, please do not send cash. REC is not responsible for cash payments lost in the mail.

Pay in Person

You also have the option to pay your electric bill in person at any of REC’s local office locations:

At our offices, you can pay by cash, check, credit/debit card or money order. No convenience fees apply. Business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with the exception of holidays.

Payment Kiosks

For quick, convenient walk-up service, visit one of REC’s payment kiosks located right in your community. Kiosks accept cash, checks and credit/debit card payments without any fees. You can also start or stop electric service at a kiosk.

Budget Billing

To make managing your electric bill easier, consider enrolling in REC’s Budget Billing program. This allows you to pay the same bill amount each month based on your projected annual usage. Your account is later reconciled at the end of the year.

Budget Billing helps you avoid seasonal spikes in your electric bill. And you don’t have to worry about having the funds available each month to cover an unexpectedly high balance. To enroll, simply call REC’s customer contact center at 800-552-3904.

Payment Arrangements

If you’re having trouble paying your REC electric bill on time, contact us as soon as possible to set up a payment plan that works for your financial situation. We have several flexible options available, including:

• Payment extensions – Get a few extra days to pay your bill without late fees.
• Long-term payment plans – Set an affordable budget plan to pay down your overdue balance over 6 months.
• Match pay programs – REC will match down payments up to $150 on overdue bills over $300.
• Percentage pay plans – Pay a percentage of your bill over 3-6 months until your account is current.
• Hardship programs – Severely overdue accounts can get credits applied to help catch up on payments.

Third-Party Bill Payment Services

You can also pay your REC electric bill through third-party bill payment services like CheckFreePay, Paymentus, Doxo, and more. These services allow you to pay all your bills, including utilities, in one place either online or through a mobile app.

To get started, you’ll first need to set up an account with one of the providers. Then add REC as a payee using your account number. Payments made through these services take 2-3 business days to process. Convenience fees may apply.

Auto Pay

For ultimate bill payment convenience, sign up for Auto Pay through SmartHub. This automatically pays your electric bill each month on the due date using your preferred payment method – whether credit card, debit card or bank account.

Once enrolled, you’ll no longer have to manually pay each month. Your bill will be paid automatically on time, helping you maintain a positive payment history. You’ll still receive a statement each month for your records. Auto Pay gives you peace of mind that your bill is taken care of.
