While writing checks and mailing in payments may have been the only option in the past, Fort Bend MUD 2 now offers their customers various convenient ways to pay their water, sewer, and trash bills. Read on to learn about the multiple bill pay options available and how to avoid late fees and service interruptions.

Online Bill Pay

The easiest and most convenient way for most people to pay their Fort Bend MUD 2 utility bill is online. To pay online you first need to register your account on the MDS customer portal at www.mdswater.com/smartmeter. MDS is the company contracted by Fort Bend MUD 2 to handle billing and payment processing.

Once your account is registered, you can log in anytime to view your current bill, see payment history, set up automatic payments, and make one-time payments. MDS offers two online payment options:

  • Credit/Debit Card Payments: Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover cards are accepted. There is a $3.50 transaction fee for payments up to $500, and a fee of $5.95 for payments between $500-$5,000.

  • eCheck Payments: Pay directly from your bank account for a flat fee of $3.50 per transaction.

Online payments are processed immediately, so you don’t have to worry about your payment getting lost in the mail. You’ll have peace of mind knowing your bill is paid on time.

Pay By Phone

If you prefer to speak to a live representative to process your payment you can call the MDS toll-free customer service line at (855) 270-3592. They accept credit/debit card and eCheck payments over the phone. The same transaction fees apply as outlined above for online payments.

Pay In Person

You can pay your Fort Bend MUD 2 bill in person at one of two MDS office locations

  • 406 W. Grand Parkway S, Suite 260, Katy, TX 77494
  • 16758 Telge Rd., Cypress, TX 77429

Both locations are open Monday-Friday from 8:30am-4:30pm. You can pay by check, money order or cashier’s check. Please note that cash payments are not accepted.

Pay by Mail

If you prefer to pay your bill through the mail, you can send a check or money order to the payment address printed on your bill. Be sure to include your payment stub to credit your account properly. Payments should be mailed to:

Fort Bend MUD 2
P.O. Box 3150
Houston, TX 77253-3150

Allow 5-7 business days for mailed payments to be received and processed. Pay attention to your due date to avoid late fees.

Pay at Retail Locations

For added convenience, Fort Bend MUD 2 allows customers to pay their utility bills at local grocery stores. You can pay in person at any HEB or Kroger location. Just bring your payment stub to the customer service counter. There is a $1.50 third-party fee per transaction.

You can also pay at any Walmart store, but there is a higher $1.50 overnight delivery fee since they have to send your payment via courier to be processed the next day.

Automatic Bank Draft Payments

If you want your utility bill payment to be handled automatically each month, you can enroll in bank auto draft. This allows Fort Bend MUD 2 to securely withdraw your balance due directly from your checking or savings account on the due date.

To enroll, you need to register your account on the MDS customer portal and complete the autopay enrollment steps. You can cancel or change your auto draft anytime through the portal. Enrolling in auto pay prevents forgotten late payments and stops service interruptions.

Consider a Payment Plan

If you are struggling to pay your bill in full every month, call Fort Bend MUD 2 to ask about payment plan options. Based on your financial situation, they may be able to arrange a monthly installment agreement to pay down your balance over time. This helps avoid a large past due amount and service termination.

Financial Assistance Programs

For low income customers in need of bill payment assistance, Fort Bend MUD 2 partners with St. Laurence Catholic Church to offer aid through their Community Assistance Program. You can apply with proof of financial hardship to qualify for grants applied directly to your utility account.

The state of Texas also offers utility bill payment help through the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs. You can see if you qualify for their Comprehensive Energy Assistance Program (CEAP) which provides up to $1,200 a year in bill relief.

Avoid Late Fees and Disconnection

Fort Bend MUD 2 bills are due by the 4th of each month. A 10% late penalty applies if payment in full is not received by the due date. If your account becomes 60 days past due, your water service may be disconnected.

A $50 fee is charged to resume service after disconnection, so be sure to pay on time or promptly make payment arrangements if you anticipate falling behind. Just reaching out shows good faith and can prevent shut offs.
