Paying your monthly electricity bill is an essential part of being an Evergy customer. However, with so many options to pay your bill it can get confusing. In this guide I’ll walk you through the various ways you can pay your Evergy electricity bill, making it quick and easy.
Online Account
The easiest way to pay your Evergy electricity bill is through your online account. After signing up for an account on Evergy’s website, you can view and pay your bill anytime, anywhere.
To pay online, simply log in to your account and select “Make a Payment” You can pay using a credit/debit card, checking account or Evergy bill matrix barcode. Payments made through an online account are usually processed immediately, so you don’t have to worry about late fees
I highly recommend setting up automatic payments through your online account. This way, your bill is paid on time each month without you having to remember.
Mobile App
Evergy also has a free mobile app for Android and iOS devices. The app allows you to manage your account, view usage and securely pay your bill on the go.
To get started, download the Evergy app from the App Store or Google Play Store. Log in using your online account details. You can then select the “Billing” section to view your current bill and make a payment.
The mobile app is great for busy customers who are frequently on the move. I’ve used the app many times to pay my bill while out running errands. It’s fast, easy and accepts various payment methods.
By Phone
If you prefer speaking to an Evergy customer service agent you can pay your electricity bill over the phone. Simply call 1-800-383-1183 and select the “Pay by Phone” option.
The automated system will guide you through the process. Make sure to have your account information, payment details and billing amount ready. Payments made over the phone are usually processed immediately.
The phone payment method is ideal if you have questions about your bill and need to speak to an agent. They can take your payment while discussing your account.
By Mail
Paying your Evergy electricity bill by mail is easy if you have your paper bill and payment coupon. Simply fill out the payment coupon at the bottom of your bill and mail it along with a check or money order.
Be sure to include your account number on the check or money order and mail it a few days before your due date. This allows time for the payment to reach Evergy and be processed by the due date. Mailed payments that arrive after the due date are considered late.
I recommend paying by mail only if you still receive paper bills and don’t mind waiting for payments to process. For faster processing, choose one of the online payment options.
In Person
You can pay your Evergy electricity bill in person at an authorized payment location. Evergy has over 150 authorized pay stations across Kansas and Missouri, including Hy-Vee stores.
To find your nearest payment location, use the pay station locator on Evergy’s website. Simply enter your ZIP code and select a radius to view locations on a map.
When paying in person, be sure to bring your paper bill or account number. The cashier will take your payment and provide a receipt. In-person payments are processed immediately, avoiding late fees.
Paying in person makes sense if you prefer dealing with cash or don’t have a bank account. Just be aware that wait times at payment locations can vary.
Payment Kiosk
For fast, convenient bill payment, look for an Evergy payment kiosk at participating retailers. Payment kiosks operate much like ATMs for paying your utility bill.
Currently, Evergy has over 300 payment kiosks throughout their service area. Top locations include Price Choppers, Hen House stores and Town & Country Markets.
To use a kiosk, select “Evergy” and enter your account number and payment amount. You can pay using cash, pin-enabled debit/credit cards and Evergy bill matrix barcodes. Receipts are provided upon payment.
Payment kiosks are my go-to option when I have cash on hand or need to pay quickly before the due date. The kiosk immediately processes the payment so it’s posted to my account.
MoneyGram
If you need to pay your Evergy bill with cash, a great option is using MoneyGram. You can make cash bill payments at thousands of MoneyGram locations including CVS, Walmart and 7-Eleven.
To pay with MoneyGram, visit a participating location and complete a blue send form. Provide the cashier your account number and payment amount. There will be a small fee for the service.
Once submitted, MoneyGram will electronically send your payment info to Evergy for processing. Payments made before 5 PM are typically posted to your account the next business day.
MoneyGram is convenient for cash bill payment if you don’t live near an Evergy payment kiosk. Just know that it takes 1 business day to process.
Financial Assistance Programs
If you’re having trouble paying your Evergy electricity bill, look into their financial assistance programs. Qualified customers can receive bill payment help, lower rates and debt forgiveness.
Programs available include Federal Low Income Energy Assistance, Project Deserve and Dollar Help. Visit Evergy’s website or speak to a customer service agent to learn more.
Applying for financial assistance is worth it if money is tight. You can take some stress out of paying monthly utility bills.
