Paying your utility bill can be a hassle – searching for the bill, writing a check, finding a stamp, and getting it in the mail. For many of us, it’s an errand we dread each month. But it doesn’t have to be that way! The Lafayette Utilities System (LUS) offers a variety of convenient payment options to fit any lifestyle and make paying your bill quick and easy.
As a long-time Lafayette resident and LUS customer myself, I’ve tried every payment method they offer. In this article, I’ll walk through each option and share my experiences to help you choose the best bill payment method for you.
LUS Quick Pay
LUS Quick Pay allows you to pay your bill online without logging in to your account. Just go to lus.org/quickpay and enter your account number and the account holder’s name It takes less than a minute!
You can pay with a credit card, debit card, or e-check. In my experience, the payment processes instantly. I get an email confirmation, and the payment is reflected on my account right away.
Quick Pay is great for those months when I’ve misplaced my bill and just need to get the payment in before the due date. It’s fast and easy access from my computer or phone.
LUS My Account
For more robust online account management, LUS offers My Account. You’ll need to create a login, but then you can do everything Quick Pay offers plus:
- View current and past bills
- Make recurring payments
- Check your usage history
- Update account information
- And more
I love the convenience of managing my account online. The site is user-friendly, payments are seamless, and I like being able to monitor my home’s energy and water usage.
You can also opt for paperless billing with My Account. As an avid online banking user, going paperless with my LUS bill was a no-brainer for me.
Pay by Phone
When I’m on the go and don’t have time to mess with websites, I appreciate the option to pay my LUS bill by phone. Just call 337-291-8280 and select the “pay by phone” option.
The automated system walks you through the process. Have your account number ready as well as a debit or credit card for payment One thing to note is that you can’t set up recurring payments over the phone system But it’s great for those months I realize I forgot to pay right before the due date!
Mail-In Payment
Paying by mail using the return envelope provided with your paper bill is a simple, classic option. Just insert your check or money order, include the payment stub from your bill, and pop it in the mailbox. No postage required.
I admit, in the age of technology, mailing a paper check feels outdated. But some months, sitting down to write out a bill payment is oddly satisfying. And if checks are already part of your regular bill paying routine, no need to mess with what works!
One tip if paying by mail – make sure your account number is written on the check. That speeds up processing on LUS’s end.
In-Person Payment
When I first moved to Lafayette, paying my utility bill in person was the standard way I did it each month. LUS has two customer service centers – one on Pinhook Road and one on Moss Street.
Both locations have a drive-thru option which makes it quick and easy. You can pay with cash, check, money order, or credit/debit card. The representatives are always friendly and helpful if you have any account questions.
Paying in person also gives you the option to set up new service or discuss billing or usage details face-to-face. I found this useful as a new LUS customer getting my utilities established for the first time.
Dropbox Payment
If you can’t make it during business hours, LUS provides a dropbox at each customer service center. You can drop off a check or money order payment 24/7. Just make sure your account information is included on the check.
I used the dropbox when I needed to pay my bill on a weekend. It gave me peace of mind knowing my payment was taken care of even though the office was closed. Payments are processed on the next business day.
Choose the Option That Works for You
As you can see, LUS offers payment solutions for every preference. Whether you love the ease of Quick Pay, prefer mailed checks, or need to discuss your account in person, LUS has you covered.
I suggest trying a few different options to see which you like best. Consider how you manage payments for other bills too. Using the same method for all your utilities and other routine expenses can make your life simpler.
And if you have trouble remembering due dates, set up autopay or recurring payments. One less thing to keep track of each month!
At the end of the day, choose the LUS bill payment method that fits your lifestyle. All provide fast and convenient ways to take care of your utility payment so you can focus on the things you love. Paying your LUS bill will be a cinch before you know it!
